Izhevsk. The Udmurt Republic. SAFMAR allocated funds to The Central Mosque construction and exterior finish.
The Central Mosque was inaugurated with the support of SAFMAR charity foundation on 10 August. SAFMAR was established by a famous Russian businessman and philanthropist Mikhail Gutseriev. The foundation allocated funds to the construction and exterior finish.
Udmurtia and Izhevsk’s authorities, managers of major companies as well as public figures and journalists took part in the solemn ceremony.
The Central Mosque is located in Izhevsk historical centre – in Karl Marx Street. It has been in process of construction since August 2003.The mosque was constructed in place of another one which was erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 and it was demolished because of Izhevsk metallurgical plant expansion in 1930-s. The new three-storey mosque has its unique architectural appearance with three minarets and three domes, the prayer hall for men (for 1000 people) and women’s prayer area above (for 500 people). The Central Mosque becomes a new spiritual centre for Muslims of the republic and one of the main Izhevsk landmarks.
Mikhail Gutseriev provided his personal support in implementing of some charitable and social projects in Udmurtiya. He supported construction of the Russian Orthodox churches, educational and sports facilities.
Since 2004 and to the present, 1 bn 650 mln rubles have been allocated for the socially significant programs by his companies in Udmurtiya
