Recently, the Council of Young Professionals of the Khanty-Mansiysk branch of PJSC “RussNeft” put forward an initiative dedicated to the Blood Donor Day: holding blood drives every three months, as the company's press service reports.
It is noted that last summer, the Khanty-Mansiysk branch decided to become a corporate participant in Donor Day. More and more company employees are joining this initiative. The company is confident that collaboration with the Blood Service should be arranged on an ongoing basis, according to the press release.
The Blood Service, in turn, emphasizes the importance of such systematic collaboration with corporate teams of enterprises operating in the autonomous area. Their participation in blood drives is critical for the stable healthcare facility operation. The supply of blood components to healthcare facilities in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area depends on a steady influx of donors to the blood transfusion station. Regular visits and scheduled events allow for the accumulation of blood and its components in advance.
Donors are honored three times a year: February 14, April 20 (National Donor Day in Russia), and June 14 (World Donor Day). February 14th coincides with Valentine's Day. Donating blood is an act of love and hope, a chance for a new life. National Donor Day in Russia is celebrated on April 20th. On this day in 1832, a young St. Petersburg obstetrician, Andrey Martynovich Wolf, first transfused her husband's blood to a woman dying of blood loss in labor, thereby saving her life. World Donor Day, June 14th, is celebrated on the birthday of the Austrian physician Karl Landsteiner, who was the first to introduce the method for dividing human blood into four groups.
